Parents are encouraged to read the information presented here to help limit the spread
of infectious disease in the daycare:
- When is a child sick?
Children will not be accepted at the centre, or will be sent home if
they display any of the following:
- A higher than normal temperature: above 37.5°C (37.5°C ear
temperature or 37°C auxillary (armpit) temperature)
- Unidentified rashes.
- Had an occurrence of diarrhoea in the last 24 hours.
- Had an occurrence of vomiting in the last 24 hours.
- Is clearly unwell, eg marked difference to normal temperament,
marked listlessness, or showing signs of pain.

- Pick up your child as soon as practical:
- If your child becomes sick at home with any of the above symptoms
please keep them at home
- If your child becomes sick whilst at childcare, you will be
contacted by a staff requesting that your child be picked up. Please
pick up your child as soon as practicable or arrange for an alternate
authorised adult to can pick up your child.
- When you pick up your child you will given an “Illness report for
Dr and Parent” form to fill in.
- In some circumstances you may need to go to the doctor before
returning to childcare.

- What else can parents do to help prevent spread of infectious
disease?
- Learn when to wash your hands, including when you first arrive,
before you leave childcare, after wiping a nose, before handling
food/utensils.
- Learn and teach your children good hand washing practice.
- Learn and teach your children good cough etiquette.
- Keep immunisation up to date (see Medications policy )
